Restoring a 1970 Austin Mini Traveller
/Rediscovering a timeless Beauty
There's something undeniably magical about classic cars—their timeless charm, elegant lines, and of course the stories they carry from another era. As enthusiasts and specialists in restoring Classic Minis, we recently embarked on a journey of reviving this 1970 Austin Mini Traveller, lovingly known as the "Woody." Join us as we took it back to bare bones, breathing new life into its weary body.
Stripped Out and Partial Blast:
Our adventure began with a meticulous process of stripping the Austin Mini Traveller down. We carefully removed all the components, ensuring each part was catalogued and stored. This crucial step allowed us to have a comprehensive overview of the vehicle's condition, identifying areas that required particular attention.
After the disassembly, we subjected the bodywork to a partial blast, which involved using a controlled abrasive medium to remove the existing paint and surface rust. This process prepared the foundation for the upcoming stages of restoration, revealing the true extent of the Woody's bodywork requirements.
Body Restoration and Full Repaint in Old English White:
With the Mini Traveller's body exposed, our skilled craftsmen went to work. Extensive attention was given to repairing and replacing any damaged panels, ensuring structural integrity, and preserving as much originality as possible.
To honour the Mini's classic heritage, it was given a full repaint in its original colour, Old English White.
Rebuilt in a New Wood Kit:
One of the defining features of the Mini Traveller, affectionately known as the "Woody," is its intricate woodwork. Our restoration project wouldn't have been complete without paying meticulous attention to this iconic characteristic. Using a high-quality wood kit specially crafted for classic Minis, we meticulously rebuilt and replaced the wooden panels, reviving the Woody's signature charm.
